2025 Word of the Year: Centered
As we step into 2025, I’ve chosen my word of the year: Centered. This word resonates deeply with the season I’m entering, a time of shifting focus from self-driven efforts to a God-centered life. It’s not just a resolution; it’s a commitment to realignment and intentionality.
Leaving Behind the “Self”
In choosing to live a centered life, I’m leaving behind the habits and mindsets that no longer serve me. These include:
- Self-Centeredness: The constant striving to have everything revolve around me and my desires. Instead, I’m seeking to make God’s will the center of my decisions and actions.
- Self-Sufficiency: Relying solely on my strength, as if I’m capable of carrying every burden. This year, I want to embrace the truth of John 15:5: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
- Self-Doubt: Second-guessing and underestimating myself when God has already equipped me for the journey ahead. Ephesians 2:10 reminds me that I am “God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for me to do.”
A God-Centered Life
To be centered is to live intentionally with God at the core of everything. Romans 12:2 serves as my guiding scripture for this shift:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing, and perfect will.”
This verse is a reminder that true transformation begins when I renew my mind and allow God’s Word to direct my path. It’s not about perfection but about continual alignment.
Living Out “Centered”
This year, my goals are grounded in this theme. They include:
- Faith: Daily time in prayer and scripture to remain rooted in God’s truth and let His Word guide my decisions and actions.
- Family: Relationships are my ministry, and this year, I’m prioritizing loving and serving my family and community well.
- Finance: Redefining wealth to include financial freedom and purposeful stewardship of my time and resources. This means streamlining business operations, eliminating debt, and giving generously.
- Fitness & Fun: My physical health is a gift that enables me to live out God’s purpose. This year, I’m focusing on nourishing my body with healthy habits, playing pickleball as a form of exercise and joy, and ensuring I have the energy to fulfill my roles.
This year, my goals are about creating rhythms that reflect God’s purpose rather than checking off a list. Living “centered” is about grounding every area of my life in Him—faith, family, fitness, finances, and fun.
